10 Colour
Signifies the sensation which, when called forth by light and transmitted by the agency of the eye through the optic nerve to the brain, is produced by the operation of these organs. It is a term that is applied to dyestuffs, printing pastes, pigments and other substances by which textiles are coloured. The old red, blue and yellow, three-colour theory while still used as a basis in colour mixing is known to be inadequate, but the science of colour is much too intricate and difficult a subject to be explained here. -
11 Blue Bender Cotton
This cotton which, because of its colour, is of an inferior quality is largely obtained in the bends of the Mississippi and its tributaries. It is not grown intentionally, but its dark colour is supposed to be caused by soil and weather conditions. The crop varies from about 10,000 bales one season up to 15,000 another season. The cotton is difficult to bleach, and, if mixed with other American types, will show streaky in the cloth when bleached.Dictionary of the English textile terms > Blue Bender Cotton
